Two-Day Long Seminar Series on An Islamic Future Bangladesh Development Model
Two-Day Long Seminar Series on An Islamic Future Bangladesh Development Model was organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC). The seminar was held on 1–2 December 2025 at the university’s Central Auditorium. Presided over by the Director of IQAC, Professor Dr. Mohammad Aktaruzzaman Khan, the seminar featured Professor Dr. Masudul Alam Choudhury, a Bangladeshi-origin Canadian scholar, as the keynote speaker. Dr. Choudhury is currently a Visiting Professor at Trisakti University, Indonesia, and a former distinguished professor of Cape Breton University, Canada. He shared insights from his extensive research and international experience in Islamic economics, social welfare models, and development philosophy. In the seminar, he elaborated on the theoretical framework, applicable policies, international perspectives, and future prospects of advancing Bangladesh’s development through an Islamic values-based sustainable model. He particularly emphasized moral economics, integrated development, and partnership-based productive economic models. The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of IIUC, Professor Dr. Mohammad Ali Azadi, attended the event as the Chief Guest and delivered his remarks. He stated that such research-oriented seminars broaden the intellectual horizon of teachers and students and contribute new perspectives to the national development framework. He further expressed hope that a development model rooted in Islamic worldview would play a significant role in shaping the future of Bangladesh. On the inaugural day, a discussion and commentary on the keynote presentation was delivered by Professor Dr. Tanvir Mohammad Haidar Arif, Director of the Center for Research and Publication (CRP), University of Chittagong. He said, Dr. Masudul Alam Choudhury’s presentation is profoundly insightful and inspiring. An Islamic values-based development model can advance not only the economic structure of the country but also its social, moral, and educational dimensions in an integrated manner. Such thematic seminars encourage new thinking and innovation among teachers and researchers. I believe this model will play a vital role in meeting the needs of future Bangladesh. On the concluding day, the commentary on the keynote presentation was delivered by Professor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Professor of Finance at the University of Chittagong. He stated that if the development model Dr. Choudhury has constructed based on the faith of the people of Bangladesh is implemented, it will build a bridge between our beliefs and realities. The program was attended by deans of various faculties, departmental heads, and more than a hundred teachers and students from various public and private universities in Chattogram. The seminar series was moderated by Dr. Shah Md. Sanaul Karim, Additional Director of IQAC. Dr. Mohammad Manjur Alam, Additional Director of IQAC, was also present.
